All gentlemen and ladies, age 55, or over, are welcome. To play in this unique league, you do not need to be a Geezers Golf member or be a member of any club associated with the courses. You just need to have the desire to have fun, make new friends, and enjoy a glorious day on the course.
Our modified golf rules speed up play and the scramble format eliminate the feeling that you need to hit a great shot with every swing.
If you are already a member, or you join Geezers Golf during the season, your green fees will be discounted when registering on game day with your membership card.
1. Each Host Course to have two Teams to play Scrambles with home and away matches with two Teams from the other seven Host Courses. Teams can be all male, all female, or mixed. Teams will be made up of seniors with 20-plus handicaps playing in foursomes. Here’s a new twist, the foursomes may play against twosomes with lower handicaps.
2. Each Team may have unlimited Members, entering as many foursome or twosome groups as they can organize for a league event. There could be restrictions if the event’s Host Course had limited tee times available.
3. The foursomes will play from the forward tees. The twosomes play from the white tees. Rather than individual scores, the foursome’s score or the twosomes score are recoded for each hole.
4. Each Thursday during the season, matches start at 10:30 AM. Occasionally weather, or a conflicting commitment of the Host Course will affect scheduling.
5. Each Team will have one home scramble or one away scramble each week.
6. League member players may elect to become Geezers Golf Members at any time and, thereby, avail themselves of the discounted green fees for the next match.
7. The Host Courses will all have lunch facilities available to players.
8. Cost to Players: Regular Host Course green fees, or for Geezers Golf members, a discounted green fee, plus cost of lunches provided by the Host Course’s dining facility.
Four players form a Scramble foursome. Each player hits a tee shot on each hole, but everyone plays from the spot of the best shot. The best shot is chosen through a general consensus of the foursome. At least twice during the round, each player’s tee shot location will be selected as the spot to be played by the others.
Mark the spot of the best tee shot with a golf tee or ball marker. The other players pick up their balls and hit the next shot from within one club length of the marked spot, but on the same surface and no closer to the hole.
For each hole, after the tee shot, continue selecting the best shot until one player hits the ball in the hole.
The lower handicap twosomes play from the white tees using the same best-shot selection process until one of the players hits the ball in the hole.
League scrambles may have shotgun starts. If so, depending on the assignment by the Host Course, the opening hole for each foursome or twosome could be any hole on the course.
The Team Captain collects his Team’s scores for the round and meets with the opposing Team Capitan. The gross score for every group (foursome or twosome) to be recorded for each of the two Teams. Points are awarded as follows: Lowest group score = 5 points; Second lowest group score = 4 points; Third lowest group score = 3 points; Fourth lowest group score = 2 points; Fifth lowest group score = 1 point. This scoring system permits Teams with fewer groups to compete on an equal footing with Teams with more groups. The Captains report the points won by each Team to the League office. Throughout the season the total points for each of the 16 Teams will be posted and maintained on the Geezers Golf website.
At the end of the season, the winning Team will receive the revolving League Championship Trophy, together with the accompanying bragging rights.
